How much should you pay for a professionally designed website in Australia? Start with the work your business needs, then compare quotes for the same scope. At Smartfish Creative, our published packages start at $3,950 for a five-page small business website, $4,850 for a corporate website and $8,650 for an e-commerce website.
All prices in this guide are Australian dollars (AUD) excluding GST. These are Smartfish package prices checked on 9 September 2026, not Australian industry averages. Your final quote depends on the agreed pages, content, functionality and integrations.
Website design prices: compare the scope
- Small Business Website — from $3,950 + GST. Up to five pages, a contact form, social media integration, Google Analytics and Search Console setup, and two rounds of revisions. The published package lists additional pages at $220 + GST each. View the Small Business Website package and inclusions.
- Corporate Website Package — from $4,850 + GST. The published package includes 10–20 pages, layouts for content such as team profiles and portfolios, multiple contact forms, responsive design and up to five rounds of revisions. View the Corporate Website package and inclusions.
- E-Commerce Website — from $8,650 + GST. WordPress and WooCommerce setup, core website pages, an initial ten products and product categories. The published package also lists one year of hosting, an SSL certificate and 12 months of maintenance support. Confirm the content-writing and image allowance in your quote, as these depend on scope. A small brochure website and an online store are different projects. Page count is useful, but it does not tell you how much writing, design, product setup, testing or integration work is included. Package inclusions and prices can change; use the linked product page and your written quote to confirm the current offer.
What changes the cost of a website?
Pages, content and design
A five-page site with approved text and photographs needs less preparation than a site with 20 services, team profiles and case studies. Specify who will write, supply, upload and approve the content. Also distinguish a custom design built on a professional WordPress theme from a fully bespoke theme or application: both can be appropriate, but they involve different work.
Features and integrations
Booking tools, memberships, payment gateways, CRM connections and customer portals add setup and testing. For e-commerce, allow for product variations, shipping rules, tax settings and any existing product data that needs cleaning or importing. List each required integration in the brief rather than assuming it is part of a standard website package.
Rebuilding an existing website
A redesign should account for the content and search visibility you already have. Ask whether the quote includes an inventory of current URLs, migration of useful content, redirects for changed addresses and checks after launch. Moving a website involves more than replacing its appearance.
Feedback and timing
The number of revision rounds, the availability of approved content and the speed of feedback affect delivery. Confirm what counts as a revision and what becomes an additional feature or page. Agree on a realistic schedule before committing to a launch date.
What ongoing website costs should you budget for?
The initial build is only one part of ownership. Ask for a separate list of recurring services, their renewal dates and what happens when an included first year ends.
- Domain registration: the website address and its renewal.
- Hosting and SSL: where the website runs and how the secure connection is provided. Check storage, support, backups and renewal pricing.
- Maintenance: software updates, backups, security checks and help when something breaks. Confirm whether content changes are included.
- Software and subscriptions: premium plugins, booking platforms, email marketing tools and other third-party services.
- Online selling: payment processing, platform extensions and any shipping or inventory services.
- Content and marketing: new pages, photography, copywriting and ongoing search engine optimisation.
Some packages include particular ongoing services for a defined period; others quote them separately. Compare the total for the first year and the likely renewal year. You can also review our website hosting services and ongoing SEO services.
How to compare website design quotes
Give each designer the same brief. Ask for a written breakdown covering:
- The number of pages, page layouts and products included.
- Who supplies copy, images, branding and existing-site content.
- Required forms, payments, bookings and integrations.
- Mobile testing, basic accessibility checks and launch testing.
- SEO setup, URL migration and any redirects.
- Revision rounds, milestones and the process for extra work.
- Website access, handover and training.
- Hosting, maintenance, software licences and renewal charges.
- Deposit, payment schedule, GST and any exclusions.
Choose on the basis of relevant work, clear communication and a scope that fits your needs. A freelancer, agency or DIY platform can each be suitable; the useful question is who will do the work and support you afterwards. For the platform decision, see our WordPress, Wix and Squarespace comparison.
How to keep your website budget under control
Start with the pages and features needed to explain your offer and let customers enquire or buy. Prepare your content early, nominate one person to consolidate feedback and keep optional features in a later phase. Reuse suitable existing content after checking it is accurate. Cutting unnecessary complexity is more useful than removing essential testing or handover.
Illustrative scope example: a service business might begin with Home, About, Services, Our Work and Contact. A business with several distinct services may need individual service pages instead. This is a planning example, not a client case study or a promise that every five-page site suits the same package.
Website pricing questions
How much is a five-page business website?
Smartfish’s published Small Business Website package starts at $3,950 + GST for up to five pages. Extra pages and requirements outside the listed inclusions are additional. Confirm your content and feature requirements before selecting a package.
Does website design include SEO?
Check the exact inclusions. Initial setup can include page titles, descriptions, analytics and a sitemap. Ongoing SEO involves further research, content improvements, technical work and measurement. A new website or SEO plugin does not guarantee rankings.
Are hosting and maintenance included?
It depends on the package. Our published e-commerce package includes specified first-year services; do not assume those same inclusions apply to every package. Ask for the included period and renewal costs in writing.
Can I update the website myself?
WordPress allows authorised users to edit content. Ask what access and training you receive, which parts you can change and whether ongoing assistance is included or billed separately.
Do I need a complete redesign?
Not always. If your platform is suitable, targeted changes to content, navigation, speed or enquiry forms may address the main problems. Assess the current site before deciding between improvements and a rebuild.
